The coast along North Zealand (Nord Sjælland in Danish) has for the last 100 years been the play ground for many (mostly rich) Danes from Copenhagen during the summer time. Gilleleje is one of the most well known places and it still is - as it was a 100 years ago - a small romantic fishing village well worth a visit.
Today there are thousands of summer houses in all sizes from huge villas to small sheds along the coast, and only a tiny minority have view over the sea.
There are many small wooden piers along the coast, they are used if you want to go swimming. The first 5 to 10 meters out into the water are often covered with slippery stones in various sizes which makes it very difficult to walk, so people use the piers to get out to the sand.
